Well… one of the things Christmas brings is good food. In fact I think that the Harvest Show does a little do-da with Stefan about that!
But of course Christmas is not about candy, cookies, and cakes – it's about Christ!
Over here in the Holy Land, Christianity is largely represented by the Eastern communities where in their expression of Christian worship there is a 40 day fasting period that includes most indulgences like those listed above. The symbolism is potent…
Now it's kind of a funny contrast… while the West is basically stuffing itself with Christmas goodies, the East is doing some thinking on ones spiritual nourishment.
But I say I have found a common ground for East or West! Christmas is a wonderful time to remember that Jesus is the “bread of life.” It's a powerful illustration of what Jesus is meant to be to our lives. He's the source of life. He's the food our souls need!
Indeed – Bethlehem is often the focus of this season and it's name in Hebrew means 'House of Bread'.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again.” John 6:35
This Christmas, whether your stuffing or fasting, just please make sure you're feeding your soul a healthy diet of Jesus.
