Today is Thursday – known as Maundy Thursday.
The events in Jesus' life are crystallized in this weekend – and all it all began with the events commencing in the evening.
It really all begins with Jesus – fully God of All, girding Himself with a towel and washing the dirty feet of the disciples.
Jesus then participated in the ceremonial Passover meal – altering it to what it means to Him, and to us in Holy Communion. This action was of course immortalized in Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper painting – with all it's symbolizism.
Latter after retiring outside of the city, Jesus took the closest of His disciples to pray earnestly – and await those who would arrest Him and ultimately take His human life.
These three main events impact our lives. I know for myself that I have to answer to God for my own lack of serventhood, my betrayals to Him, and my lack of discipline.
This is an incredible day – if we stop and ponder the events – relating them to us personally.
How do we measure up? Would our sins cause us – or even convict us, to betray or deny our Lord? Would we have done differently than the disciples did?
It also makes me think of another thing… just how impossible our situation is in this life. And when I take a good long look at it all – it makes me joyful of all things!
God Himself loved me so much He came down to serve me by suffering the wrath of justice against my sins. I cannot keep up with Him – nor can I assist in my redemption from all that separates me from my Creator…
But I can choose to serve, choose to live a life of conciseness that means I know nothing of betrayal, and choose to watch and pray with my Savior till He comes again.
Wishing you all a blessed Maundy Thursday, a reflectful Good Friday, and a Joyous Easter!
