Thanks for checking in on the Blog as I do a 'Double-Shot' of reporting from Jerusalem today.
It is another fabulous day today for weather here – but ooooohhhhh the traffic!
The mess outside is huge with preparations for accommodating 15 heads of State and 3,500 dignitaries. And as you know President Bush is topping the VIP guest list as Israel hosts the world for it's 60th Birthday celebration.
It wasn't that long ago that Mr. Bush was here – and so the memory of street closures, cars being ticketed and towed, and walls of police and security are still fresh in the minds of Jerusalem's residents. Some have nick-named this visit as The Second Coming.
“Isn't it exciting” you ask? For a lot of people the word “difficult” is probably the choice of word usage. Most of the holy city's inhabitants can't wait till Friday when the President departs!
Many of the world's dignitaries come to Jerusalem – and yes (!) it is special. How I wish the excitement of anticipation would also be found for our dear Savior's return…
All the preparations, all the security, all the measures to keep protesters away – do I prepare for the coming King? Do I secure my family, friends, and myself for the Messiah? Do I take measures to guard myself from the attack of doubt or sin? It is hard work to be in the world but not of it – but we are not alone are we.
God came, suffered, rose again – and before doing so left us an assurance of company – The Holy Spirit – to be among us.
I am so honored to be living here – most people must settle with a visit! But with God's Spirit and grace I can be a part of the local planning for the city's most important VIP.
… and there's no badges necessary.
Even so – Maranotha!
