There are many stories running today here in the Middle East. Perhaps the two most significant are the situation of the Iranians boarding a ship and Saudi Arabi’s arrests of 93 alleged Islamic State members.
The Iran seizure of a Marshall Islands flagged 65,000-tonne container ship, off the Iranian coast had ship in the Persian Gulf has many people wondering what’s on it.
Iranian Patrol boats fired multiple times across the bow to move the ship deeper into Iranian territory and then boarder the vessel.
The are 34 crew aboard.
U.S. aircraft and a nearby destroyer responded to the ship’s distress – but now are observing the situation.
The ship was from the Saudi port of Jeddah and was bound for Jebel Ali port in the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 93 people have been arrested on the suspicion of belonging to Islamic State.
Saudi authorities say that the action has foiled several plots of terrorism within the Kingdom – including an attack upon the US Embassy in Riyad.
Saudi officials say many of the captured were planning suicide bomb attacks.
All but five suspects were Saudi nationals.
