Will – everyone on the street is talking about the truce in Gaza between Hamas and Israel. Since Israel pulled out from the Gaza Strip a few years ago we have had an ongoing problem of tit-for-tat violence.
Things have steadily escalated to where there was an impending military operation that would not have been good for anybody. An Egyptian brokered peace deal has been reached and now – or the last few hours at least, we have had calm.
Of course this is the ultimate goal: calm and the total cessation of violence. Quiet will determine whether this truce will hold and be a success.
Most people say the calm is fragile and will be short-lived. I think it is a necessary step. It is important that every opportunity that may lead to peace be taken for the people of Gaza and Israel.
